The effect of the FLE approach to sexuality was strikingly illustrated by a woman seated in a high school auditorium where a sex education curriculum was being discussed.
The teachers and staff had explained the curriculum and opened the floor to a question-and-answer session.
At one point during the Q&A session, a woman stood up and instead of asking a question, shared a story. She was from the area, she informed us, had graduated from a local college, and had lived and worked in the area her entire adult life.
What she said next was completely unexpected and well outside the Q & A format:
“I lived the Sexual Revolution … now I have nothing.”
The auditorium fell silent.
The woman left shortly afterwards but her words hung over the assembly the rest of the evening.
What parent wants their own child to express similar regrets in later years?
Students who follow the path set out in FLE lessons have been set up to experience a similar fate.
Your child doesn’t have to be one of them.
